Hellenic Hydrogen plans to build and operate large-scale renewable hydrogen production plants with the best efficiency and conservation techniques of available electrical and water resources.

North-1

The company’s first project “North_1” is based on the utilization of the important infrastructure and resources of the deglaciated area of Western Macedonia, contributing to the transition of social and productive life to a more economically sustainable and environmentally better tomorrow.

At the site of the former lignite-fired Amyndeon – Filota Steam Power Plant, the first renewable hydrogen production unit in the Balkans will be installed with an initial capacity of 20MW and with the possibility of expansion up to 200MW.

The first consumer of renewable hydrogen will be the new CHP plant at the former lignite-fired Kardia Steam Power Plant, in a mix of 80% Natural Gas – 20% Hydrogen. The renewable hydrogen and then the H2-LNG mixture will be transported from the former Amyndeon NPP to the former Kardia NPP via the new 100% H2-ready pipeline with the cooperation of DESFA. The CHP of the former NPP Kardia will now supply the district heating networks in a more environmentally efficient way, as the H2-LNG mixture will be partly free of CO2 emissions and the corresponding tax burden.

Design - Construction

For the design, construction and operation of the renewable hydrogen production plant, Hellenic Hydrogen coordinates and guides a specialized international engineering team consisting of leading international engineering firms as well as the most experienced executives of the Shareholders (MOH, PPC) in the fields of Hydrogen production and Electricity.

The technical maturation of North_1 is carried out in parallel with the licensing and financial progress of the project, aiming to become a Pilot Project for the production of renewable hydrogen in Greece and its export to continental Europe.

Amyndeon North-1 Project Summary

Project Summary:

Hellenic Hydrogen has chosen to develop an Electrolysis Plant in a former lignite plant with renewable energy, in Amyndeon, Western Macedonia, seeking to exploit existing infrastructure, but also to create synergies with H2 related initiatives in Western Macedonia. North-1 will be the first commercial renewable hydrogen production plant in Southeast Europe.

Type:

Installation of a H2 plant in a former industrial area

Power Plant Size (MW):

Initial capacity of 20 MW with the possibility of expansion up to 200 MW

Off taking:

Cogeneration Unit (Heart) & Heavy Duty Vehicles (Western Macedonia)

Site Benefits:

Expansion potential, numerous RES, proximity to Natural Gas and Electricity grids, water infrastructure, skilled workforce and existing industrial facilities for reuse

Hellenic Hydrogen’s next projects are directed towards renewable fuels and chemical derivatives production, as well as pipeline exports.
